Contents page, finished article
This is my music magazine contents page, this page is what I would regard as the best out of the three pieces.
The colour scheme is in keeping with the three other pages as the pink used, relates to the overall speciality of the magazine as it is used in support for breast cancer. The style of the text used makes the main titles stand out, as the main pages are written in bright pink while the sub text and very brief intro is written in white. The text used is similar to that of the double page spread in that its like a handwriting style, but the titles used are almost goth-like, which can be linked to music in the form of Rock and Roll in a way.
The images used are very subtle as they do not give much away to the audience as to what the pages are about which could cause the audience to purchase the magazine to gain a further interest into what the magazine offers. The background of the magazine, gives a type of olden feel to it, like the way you do with a teabag to make a piece of paper look older, the same has been replicated here, the images make the contents page look older also as they are from an old camera and have been taped onto the page in a 3d effect also. The bottom photos also make the effect of old style as it shows a film reel which is barely used nowadays.
I have researched many contents pages in order to be able to recreate this at first it was the most troubling as I did not understand the layout and had to restart over and over again before I came up with this final design which I think compliments each of the elements very well in terms of not making anything stand out too much or too little.

double page spread finished article
The magazine is created in the style of a chalkboard, the text used throughout is in the style of handwriting for the main interview and in a chalkboard style for the other text used. The main image used is of James Stevens (played by Scott Jenkinson) the main image is in relation to the main feature presented on the front page, main image shows the character in an aggressive manner pretending to be about to hit someone with a guitar, the main image overlaps all the text and also overlaps the border to make it seen 3d as if the person James is going to hit is you the audience.
The text located behind the main image is of chalkboard text with the words all symbolising the problems and bad stuff in James' life and how he is putting all that behind him and that is why its located behind him.
The main Title reads James Stevens, which has been rubbed out slightly due it being written on a chalkboard, this represents James' star status which was originally full and perfect writing but due to him taking a break because of problems, is slowly starting to wear away, the subtitle which is an extract from what James states in the article, the writing is done in a child like handwriting style as another representation of the overall theme of the article which is the chalkboard. The pull text located in yellow gives another insight into what is going to be in the article and gives the audience more insight into the main important things about the article.the other pictures are typical of what would be drawn on a chalkboard

Front page, finished article
This is my finished music magazine, the main image used is a Close up of Scott Jenkinson who is playing a character I have created called James Stevens, the close up shows all the features of his face as well as showing the seriousness and emotion within his eyes. The background was originally just plan black but I edited it out on photoshop using the magic wand tool and replaced it with a brick wall that was changed to black and white to make the main image stand out more.
The colour scheme used was hard to make it stand out as many music magazines use a dark font on a light background, to make the text stand out but I had to use the opposite as I used a dark background so I had to use light coloured text in order to make them readable and to stand out on the magazine.
The Masthead was set in pink, as support for breast cancer, which is what other magazines have done in support of breast cancer as the sales from the magazines go towards the cause. Also when people ask why the magazine was made in this colour people will read and explain which makes more people aware and raises awareness of Breast Cancer.
The Magazine slogan is in fitting with the music magazine as it reads, "Discover your love for music again" the writing is easy to read and is located in smaller writing just below the masthead to not draw any attention any from the main images and text. The text is also in fitting with the colour scheme, so it again does not draw any attention away from the main objects on the page. The banner on the bottom is to let people know why the colour scheme has been used, the banner includes the pink banner that represents breast cancer, banner are often used for special one off issues to explain why it is a special magazine.
The main title is used to show to who the main feature of the magazine, is based on the main title is used within another colour to make it stand out amongst the other writing, the writing above the main title gives an extract of whats going to be included in the main feature and acts a selling point to the audience as they will want to understand why this has been used and what it means. The puff gives another reason for the audience as to why the magazine should be bought as this is a special feature that you will receive if you purchase this music magazine rather than another one

Production Log- Mise En scene

Guitar
Chair
Microphone
Why are they being used?
These are the props that I have used throughout my music magazine, props are important because they help make the effect of someone performing for example more real if there is a microphone in front of them, as when people are performing they typically perform in front of a microphone. Props also provide a sense of quality and professionalism to the magazine to make the audience believe this is a true magazine with a large budget to spend on items that take up minimal space.

Example:
This image of my friend playing a guitar ( left) from my contents page looks a lot better with the use of the guitar and chair as props when compared to without as without them he is pretending to play a guitar and the audience may not recognise this, my having a guitar it makes the concept more realistic rather than making the audience find out for themselves what the signs and symbols mean.

Actors
The actors I am choosing have been picked from a selection of many people, the actors listed below are the actors that I am using within my Music magazine. The actors I have chosen have to have a certain look as tedious as that sounds that's one of the key features of a magazine especially when its needed to fit in the concept or design of a music magazine otherwise it wouldn't work and the artist featured would look out of place, so certain artists need to be fitted with certain styles in order to both compliment the artist and to also compliment the magazine.
Scott Jenkinson- James Stevens
Graeme McCullough- Mystery Artist
Seamus Brennan- Guitar Tips Photo
Stand ins if needed
Jack Hughes
Steven Brazier
Anthony Hill
Liam Parkinson

Risk Assessment
Risks
The microphone is a hazard as it has a lot of sharp corners which if someone trips over and falls on top of them could cause an injury, also the legs on the microphone are very wide so these could cause a person to fall. The solution to this is to make sure we walk slowly around the magazine and other areas of the set, as to also apply highlighted tap to each leg of the microphone stand in order to let people visually be aware of them
Microphone
Camera
Chair
Setting, such as wet floor or leaks
Hazards
The guitar is a hazard due to it weighing a significant amount of weight if dropped from a height it could injure someone, also if the guitar breaks it costs a lot of money, which we could not fund or afford so this is another hazard we need to be aware of a solution of this is to wear a strap we can obtain from the music technicians as these will limit the likelihood of the guitar coming loose from a persons hands

The camera, expensive and would result in death by media teachers if it was lost or broken, a solution to this is to wear the strap provided so we can always be aware of where the camera is and this way it cannot be lost and as long we take care of the camera around our neck it will also be maintained
The chair, the hazard of every school classroom, by identifying this as a hazard we can inform the people using them not to swing or to move them as they could break it or fall off
The setting could be a hazard due to the floor being slippery, via wet or with litter being on the ground, a solution to this is to inspect the surroundings first and if any water is found we can either clean it ourselves or contact a technician or cleaner if possible
Common sense is also a very important factor in all of these as if people start messing around and acting stupid then they could cause a hazard for everyone else and themselves.

Music Magazine Questionnaire results
These results show me that from the people who took the questionnaire, the majority were male as 60% of who answered said they were male. Most people fit into the age category of 16-20 as a total of 40% said they were this age. One interesting result from this questionnaire was that 60% of people prefer to read magazines in physical form rather than on-line via computer or on their mobile phone, this result was not what I was expecting but close behind the physical form was tablets (such as Ipads) with 40% showing that they are right being physical magazines in terms of popularity. Most people spend between £4-£6 per week on a music magazine this shows me that most people only purchase one music magazine per week as this is the average cost of a music magazine. When asked about the most important thing in a magazine, a lot of people said that the information to be true and exciting rather than boring is a major issue as well as making things different and taking chances with the magazine.
The results of the most popular music magazine were split as the same amount of people chose NME, Q and The Rolling Stone as their favourite music magazine, which is not what I was expecting as The Rolling Stone is the biggest selling music magazine in England I predicted that it would gain the most results. The majority of people's favourite genre is Indie, which is interesting as The Rolling Stone, Q and NME revolve around the genre of rock and roll and not Indie. From the results it was clear that the thing that most people look forward to in a music magazine in the interviews, this may be because they are always different and unpredictable. Most people would change the price of the magazine to lower it, this is usual as people are more likely to be happy with something they have bought if they pay a lower price for it. Also, people do not think that music magazines will become extinct soon, the majority believe they will last for a long time until it reaches a point where it cant compete with technology.
The majority of people who took this questionnaire have either been reading magazines for zero to one year or Four to Five years this shows that people have been reading music magazines for long periods of time and others have only just started which shows that more people have only just become customers meaning more profit and a larger fan base that could continue expanding.

Music Magazine Double Page Spread Layout
This is my double page spread, this will probably be the easiest to construct overall after I planned it out here, having this and the other layouts will make it much more simpler for me as I can make things certain heights knowing the will not look out of place.
Music Magazine Contents Page Layout
The importance of having a ready made music magazine contents page is equally as important as having a front page layout as having one means you know what you want to create and where to put it when you have created meaning you can spend less time putting things in place and more time constructing the actual magazine.

Artic Monkeys Interview
This is an independent blog post that I have put on as a brief show of my research into what band I am going to be basing my music video on, I am going to be creating a fake band that I will be trying to make look similar to The Arctic Monkeys.

Genre
The genre I choosing as a basis for my music magazine is rock and roll to give a very brief description of the genre I have included a Video within this blog post Entitled Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know. The Artic Monkeys are a very well known rock and roll band and have won many awards since the beginning of their career.
The most used Instruments within Rock and Roll are Drums, Guitar, Bass. Rock and roll began as a reaction to Jazz music as the earliest forms of rock and roll were similar to the Jazz genre, it wasn't until bands started changing the sound slightly after and during the second world war in the 1950's -1960's that rock and roll became its own true genre. Elvis Presley is often hailed as The King of Rock and Roll as he is seen as one of the true founders of the genre, Elvis had millions of followers around the world and would be equal to artists such as Justin Bieber of this generation. Rock and roll has always been seen and thought of as controversial especially during its first real burst onto the scene, as many people thought it was too loud and caused people to act out violently. Many other world famous rock and roll bands include, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and ACDC.
Without rock and roll its likely that many other mainstream band genres such as Hip-Hop or rap would not be as big and well known as they are today, rock and roll opened up a gateway for other artists to find their own genres at which to showcase their talents, Rock and Roll just laid out the plans.
The reason that I am choosing to base my magazine around the genre of rock and roll is because most music magazines especially the most well known ones such as Q and NME tend to focus around bands from this genre therefore its easier to form an understanding of a band that I am going to use predominantly on my front cover and double page spread if I use a band of the same genre shown by the other biggest magazines available at local newsagents

Magazine Concepts
Main differences include:-
The titles and colours used give off a whether the magazine its a friendly or serious attitude towards the content, the "HELLO!" magazine shows boxed writing to show that there's differences in the informations being written. The smiley faces and the glamorised celebrity photos show how this magazine describes the perfect world in which celebrities and stars are idolised by people and the audience. The inclusion of the other images show that they have more to offer rather than just what's shown as their main image.
Total film used more bold text with a sole main image to capture the seriousness of their own concept, they try to draw as little attention away from the centrepiece and the main feature. the bold writing of "Total FILM" links with the bold headline of "STAR TREK" to show its importance of the magazine. the black and white theme makes it easier for writing at the top to be easily readable and to stand out partly.
The typically lesser known magazine "WOOD" does have its own concept with a main image to the side and text spread around it to show its informational value and informative text, it has to give the audience more value for money due to it being a lesser known magazine compared to others. The brief bright colours with orange and yellow show how it changes titles with text being white. The white writing at the bottom is separate to give audiences an eye catching text brief.
